Asia Argento was raised in Rome by a filmmaker and an actor family. She pursued both professions herself. Aged nine the actress made her film debut with Sergio Citti in Sogni e bisogni. She played the leading role in the film of Cristina Comencini's Zoo (1988) and also appeared in Michele Soavi's 1989 feature film The Church. Red Wood Pigeon, directed also by Moretti in 1989, was her character as Nanni Moretti's daughter. Close Friends (1992), directed and written by Michele Placido was the film that really launched Asia's professional profession. Asia was able to transition from roles of a young girl to complex and mature roles. Cannes International Film Festival was a huge success for the film. Trauma (1996) and The Stendhal Syndrome are others she's worked on with her famous father. The Phantom of the Opera is the third film she has acted in together with her father, which includes Trauma and The Stendhal Syndrome. Asia's absorbed and intense approach to acting has been utilized for the part of Giuseppe Piccioni in Condannato a Nozze. Patrice Chereau was the director. Queen Margot and she was also in a key character. Her 1995 collaboration alongside Michel Piccoli, in Peter Del Monte's Traveling Companion won her yet another award from David di Donatello as well as Grolla of Oro. Asia started directing short films in the year 1994. She made two: Prospettive In 1996, she directed a documentary about her father; and Abel/Asia, 1998, on the famous film director Abel Ferrara. This latter was awarded by the Rome Film Festival. Asia debuted as a feature-length director with Scarlet Diva (2000). In this film, she played the role of a lead actor and also wrote the screenplay. The film released May 2000 both in Italy, and throughout the rest the world. The film won a prize in the Williamsburg International Film Festival. Brooklyn. Anna Lou, the first of two daughters she has was born in the month of January of 2001. In 2002, Asia starred in The Red Siren with Jean Marc Barr, and Rob Cohen's Action thrille directed with Vin Diesel. Asia also wrote some short stories which have been published by many magazines.
